The reason for this being that the Jatoba three secretes a rosin-like gum substance which makes it resistant to termites. Brazilian cherry hardwood flooring is also very hard. On the Janka Hardness scale (the scale used for determining the hardness of wood) it comes in with a score of 2820 while unfinished red oak hardwood flooring has a score of 1260.
Brazilian cherry, like any cherry wood, is beautiful and elegant, but at the same time it is also expensive. On average, Brazilian Cherry wood costs around $4-$13 per square foot, not to mention the price of the installation itself. However, cherry wood floors have the potential to raise your home’s market value, making the money you spend to have the cherry wood installed worth it in the long run.
One of the best qualities of Brazilian cherry wood plank flooring is that they are very durable, meaning that there has less chance of serious dents being made in it. Also, it is easily more affordable than American cherry. It comes in a light tan color if you buy it new, but over a year of exposure to the light, it gradually turns into a dark reddish color, almost like that of cranberry juice or the skin of an apple. Brazilian cherry flooring is definitely a great attribute to have in your home, especially in high traffic areas given it’s high durability.
